Equity is at the nexus of the relationship between customers living in frontline communities and their local utility. And findings from two of our E Source Affordability and Equity annual surveys emphasized that point. The surveys aimed to probe further into what frontline customers and communities need and want from their relationship with their utility and investments in clean energy.

As cities across the US and Canada (and beyond) grapple with challenges related to sustainability and equity, the role of public transportation is coming into sharper focus. In particular, the electrification of buses and their role in providing sustainable public transportation for cities and schools is key to achieving energy transformation and, particularly, our energy equity and justice goals.

More than 60% of low- and moderate-income (LMI) households in the US face a high energy burden, with some paying more than 20% of their income on their utility bills. Many LMI customers report trouble paying their bills or forgoing other household needs to pay their bills, with almost a third experiencing disconnections or accumulating debt to their utility providers.

Happy New Year! This time of year often finds us reflecting on the year before and identifying areas of growth and improvement. But a new year also brings a lot of opportunities to make changes, set new goals, and start anew. As we gear up for another year of helping utilities tackle challenges head-on, we wanted to share a list of New Year’s resolutions that every utility should consider in 2024.
