Ellen Thommesen is a communications and marketing professional with 14 years of experience across sectors. She has spent more than half of her career in the utilities industry, working as a communications and customer engagement expert at Colorado Springs Utilities. At Colorado Springs Utilities, she led a variety of projects and programs in the Public Affairs Department, including social media, internal communications, multimedia, digital content strategy, email marketing, and crisis communications. In her most recent role, she built strategies to improve customer engagement with energy efficiency programs by bringing data and the voice of the customer to program design and marketing strategy. Ellen is passionate about solving problems and using her creative and analytical skills to improve customer experience for utility customers.
Prior to joining the utility industry, she worked as a communications professional across organizations in the public sector including a large K–12 school district and several nonprofits. Her career is grounded in storytelling and discovery, as she received her Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and she brings her sense of curiosity to each new challenge.
