Through various initiatives, we’ve begun to lay the foundation for a sustainable future. Current initiatives include participation in the CORE Catalyst program and B Corp certification.
CORE Catalyst program. In the first quarter of 2013, we partnered with talented MBA students at the University of Colorado to help improve our triple bottom line—people, planet, and profit—through CORE Colorado’s CORE Catalyst (link is external) program. The goal of the program is to understand the impact E Source has on each of our stakeholders and, from there, to identify straightforward, high-return sustainable solutions.
The CORE Catalyst program calculates a baseline from a greenhouse gas emissions assessment as well as a B Impact Assessment created by the nonprofit B Lab (link is external). The B Impact Assessment asks questions about a business’ environmental footprint, corporate governance, employee policies, and community work. It’s an important milestone to becoming certified as a B Corp, which is becoming a respected method to gauge whether a company is “doing good while making a profit.”
B Corp certification. Certified B Corporations (link is external) are leading a global movement to redefine success in business. By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, certified B Corps distinguish themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.
E Source is inspired by this vision as well as the movement’s ability to translate ideas into action. Our goal here at E Source is to unite with the more than 600 businesses that have already joined the B Corp community and to encourage all companies to compete not just to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. When we do what’s best for the world, individuals and communities will enjoy greater economic opportunity, society will address its most challenging environmental problems, and more people will find fulfillment by bringing their whole selves to work.
