As a tech researcher, my favorite times of the year are when the tech team gathers in a conference room to brainstorm which products to include in our biannual Tech Roundup web conference. It may sound dry to some of you, but twice a year we have the privilege of taking a couple of hours out of our day to cozy up with a projector and take turns showing pictures and videos of snazzy technologies. Sometimes we chuckle about a poorly made promotional video or “ooh” and “ah” over a clever product, but we always walk away with a list of technologies we’re sincerely excited about.

After a competitive game of rock-paper-scissors to determine who gets to research each technology, we spend days reaching out to industry experts, combing through evaluations, and creating graphics for our presentation. This year we have the privilege of covering wireless electric vehicle charging, tape backup storage, home energy management, Q-sync motors, ice energy residential storage, smart showers, tunable LEDs in schools, evaporative cooling, and ultrasonic clothes drying—and we’re pumped!

The next Tech Roundup will be on August 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. EDT/11:00 a.m. PDT, so be sure to reserve your seat. Members of the E Source Technology Assessment Service can register online or contact Customer Service.

Can’t make it to Tech Roundup? You’re not out of luck! Join us at the 2016 E Source Forum for tons of tech sessions, including “Finding Your Tech Tribe: Panel and Roundtable Discussions.” Just like Tech Roundup, this session will be your opportunity to learn about new trends and products, but unlike Tech Roundup, you’ll be able to share the experience with your colleagues from other utilities! You’ll get to meet fellow techies who are implementing emerging technologies and tracking trends, and together you’ll discuss significant barriers and come up with solutions.
