Utilities are under pressure to expand their demand-side management, revenue, and load-growth programs. They’re also expected to be the trusted technology expert for their residential and business customers, answering questions as well as offering proactive advice on energy-efficient technologies. This requires staying up-to-date on the latest technology developments by collecting accurate and unbiased information—often a complicated, overwhelming, and time-consuming task.
Where do you turn when you need fuel-neutral, vendor-neutral analyses of energy-using technologies? How do you wade through vendor claims and analyze new and emerging technologies?
The answer is the E Source Technology Assessment Service. You’ll get clear, balanced analysis of energy-consuming products and services so you can tell your customers about the best technologies for their applications. We’ll provide objective, accurate, and defensible information with actionable recommendations for your programs. Membership is cost-effective because it gives your entire company access to our team of technology experts, allowing you to conserve your own precious staff time. You’ll also have access to a rich toolkit of online resources that will help you give sound advice to your customers, translate technical jargon into layman’s terms, and ensure that you won’t get burned by “black boxes.” Your membership is all-inclusive—you and your colleagues will get quick answers to your technology questions, have a research library at your fingertips, and gain access to in-person events and web conferences that will keep you informed about emerging technologies.

Refer to Our Consolidated Equipment Efficiency Standards Directory
If you’re designing demand-side management programs, the E Source Equipment Efficiency Standards Directory is an invaluable resource. You’ll find all of the data you need to make decisions about baseline equipment and incentive levels. This directory provides concise, printable U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) standards data for all covered equipment types, including the current minimum operating efficiency and how to calculate the standard. The directory consolidates multiple standards from organizations such as U.S. federal and state governments, the Canadian government, Energy Star, and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE). The data, which are continually updated throughout the year, include planned and pending standards updates. Information for each equipment type includes:
- Current standards. View current standards and effective dates for regulated equipment classes from the DOE, Energy Star, and the CEE.
- Planned updates. See upcoming new and revised standards that have been approved for implementation over the next few years.
- Pending updates. View a list of items for which new standards are under consideration but are not yet approved, including equipment classes for which there are currently no regulations.
- Listing by state. Find a summary matrix with links to U.S. state standards. You’ll find that several states have instituted efficiency standards for products not covered by U.S. federal standards.
- Additional resources. Read a summary of recent revisions to the directory, get information about Canadian standards, peruse the glossary, and use the helpful links we’ve provided.
Gain Access to Your Peer Community and Experts in the Field
We know that your peers are often your best resource, and E Source helps you develop that essential peer network through in-person meetings and interactive web conferences.
In-Person Meetings
- E Source Forum. In this exclusive annual event for E Source members, we offer a special Technology Track with insights and updates on the latest technologies as well as tracks in Customer Service, Demand-Side Management, Smart Grid, and Marketing & Communications. Past technology sessions have included best lighting technologies, electric vehicles, smart grid technologies and black-box technologies. Attendees say the biggest benefit from attending the E Source Forum is learning what has and has not worked for other utilities.
- E Source Technology Speakers Series. If you’re looking for a way to train your colleagues or a large group, members of the E Source Technology Assessment Service can set up special technology training sessions with speakers from the E Source Tech Team. For meetings, conferences, or other events, you can invite our experts to speak on a variety of technologies and topics, including lighting, how to avoid black boxes, and how to reap energy-efficiency quick hits and wins.
Topical Web Conferences
If you need to track what’s going on with end-use technologies, let us help make your job easier. Our web conferences allow you to hear from and speak directly with experts in the industry—program designers, laboratory experimenters, facility managers, topical consultants, and, of course, the E Source Tech Team. Twice a year, the Tech Team hosts a Tech Roundup web conference in which they provide a rapid-fire review of the latest tools and technologies that have crossed the emerging-technology threshold. During these interactive web conferences, we solicit your suggestions on future technologies to explore and present an independent validation of the best energy-efficiency technologies available today. You can see a list of recent E Source Technology Assessment Service web conferences.
