Research Analyst
Full time, regular (#500-10)
E Source is an independent research firm headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. We serve our customers—principally electric and gas utilities located throughout North America—with business intelligence and analysis on retail energy programs, technologies, customers, and markets.
E Source has an opening in its Boulder, Colorado, office for a research analyst who will gather, catalog, and analyze information about energy efficiency-programs and services and assist clients with greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. This is a great opportunity to learn about the energy industry, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, load-management policy and programs, energy end-use technologies, environmental marketing, GHG inventories, and climate change regulation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct web-based research on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and load-management programs sponsored by electric utilities, gas utilities, and government agencies.
- Create and maintain descriptions of programs in an existing Microsoft Access database.
- Assist with developing GHG emissions inventories for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Climate Leaders program and corporate clients.
- Compile and distribute daily energy price summary report.
- Help respond to questions from our customers.
- Assist colleagues with diverse research, interviewing, and writing tasks.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, economics, environmental studies, or engineering.
- Demonstrated interest in energy efficiency or environmental issues.
- Excellent research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking capabilities and attention to accuracy.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus.

Research Assistant

E Source information services provide member organizations with unbiased, independent analysis of retail energy markets, services, and technologies. E Source clients include electric and gas utilities and other energy service providers, large corporate and institutional energy users, government agencies, energy service companies, manufacturers, consultants, research institutions, and other organizations in nearly two dozen countries worldwide.
E Source has an opening in its Boulder, Colorado, office for a research assistant. The role of the research assistant is to conduct research, write articles and reports, and respond to customer questions about technologies that empower people to use energy more effectively. Such technologies include, but are not limited to, lighting, heating, air conditioning, motors, building-scale generation, renewables, and load management. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in:
- Efficiently identifying information resources and conducting research
- Communicating clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally
- Thinking critically to distinguish between essential and peripheral information, and between fact and marketing fiction
- Understanding energy markets and energy end-use technologies
- Translating sometimes complex technical information into work products that are easy for a lay audience to understand

- Contribute to thought-provoking, high-quality content that delights and challenges E Source members and that meets E Source standards for completeness, accuracy, objectivity, and attention to detail
- Work closely with your manager and others to scope and organize your deliverables

- Begin developing subject-matter expertise in relevant fields
- Develop or contribute to responses to Member Inquiries, providing complete and accurate information that generates a positive customer response
- Complete specific tasks related to the planning and execution of high-quality member events

Qualifications
- College enrollment or degree in engineering or physics or significant work experience evaluating, designing, or analyzing energy-consuming end-use equipment; graduate degree a plus
- Strong research skills
