Healthcare

The healthcare industry comprises approximately 16 percent of U.S. gross domestic product and 9 percent of the nation's building energy consumption. The numbers are similarly large in Canada. Inpatient healthcare facilities are very energy intensive and many have older building systems. These factors, along with continuing new construction and trends toward green building practices, provide opportunities for utilities to help healthcare facilities save energy and money.
