Results from recent pricing pilots show that critical peak pricing (CPP) is more effective than peak time rebate (PTR) in getting residential and commercial customers to reduce peak load. Earlier studies showed that CPP outperformed PTR pricing structures, but Connecticut Light & Power’s Plan-It Wise Energy Program and PowerCentsDC are the first two pilots to test CPP and a rebate in the same study and have had either a large enough sample or standard deviation to support this conclusion.
