Monitoring and targeting (M&T) is a structured approach to analyzing business and manufacturing processes with an eye for improving energy efficiency. The M&T approach correlates historical energy consumption to measurable factors of business operation and other variables to develop benchmarks and goals for energy-efficiency improvements. Consumers use M&T analysis to identify and quantify operational inefficiencies and to reduce wasted energy and utilities, excess raw material use, and greenhouse gas emissions. This report describes the M&T process and how a utility or EIS vendor can incorporate this energy management approach into its product offerings. (EIC-21; 25 pages; November 2003)
