CEC and E Source to Host Web Conference on Advancing Rooftop Unit Performance

E Source announced today that Mark Cherniack, senior program manager at New Buildings Institute, and Kristin Heinemeier, senior engineer at Western Cooling Efficiency Center, have been selected to present “Up on the Rooftop: Updating HVAC Rooftop Unit Performance” on December 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. PST.

This free web conference will examine important findings from a recent research project funded by the California Energy Commission’s (CEC’s) Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program. These two leading researchers on the advancement of rooftop unit (RTU) performance will address the latest in technology research and code proposals mandating fault detection functionality on RTUs for the California 2013 Title 24 code revision.

Unitary packaged rooftop HVAC products are responsible for heating and cooling at least 50 percent of commercial buildings across the United States. Yet, Mark Cherniack reminds us, “Higher energy cooling efficiencies from this technology are limited, as the HVAC industry tells us we have reached the thermodynamic limits of vapor-compression cooling.” However, there are other options for improving these ubiquitous systems—mostly in the area of controls and performance monitoring—that are providing additional energy savings.

Get more information on this free web conference and register online. Technical Briefs on building efficiency from PIER are available at www.esource.com/PIER.
