CEC and E Source to Host Web Conference Presenting Results from Chula Vista Energy-Efficient Community Development Project

E Source and the California Energy Commission (CEC) will be hosting a web conference to discuss how significant reductions in energy consumption and air emissions can be achieved through the integrated use of advanced building technologies and urban design features.

The web conference, “Developing Energy-Efficient Communities,” will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. PST. It’s being funded by the CEC’s Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program and hosted by E Source, an energy industry research and advisory company. Registration is free and the archive will be available online after the event as part of the funding from PIER. Get more information and register online.

Public and private development stakeholders and members of an expert research team will present findings from a 30-month research project intended to determine the extent to which efficient, renewable, distributed generation and solar energy technologies can reduce aggregate energy consumption, peak demand, and emissions of large-scale development projects. Web conference attendees will be introduced to the tools used to model performance of the design alternatives examined in the project as well as a set of valuable technical design and policy innovation guidelines for energy-efficient community development.

“Perhaps the real take-aways from this web conference are evidence that we can design and build our communities to a whole new level of resource efficiency and that guidance on how to do that is now available,” comments Doug Newman, president of SCD Consultants and director of the National Energy Center for Sustainable Communities.

The six speakers include Doug Newman; Marek Czachorski, independent consultant and former lead building modeler at the Gas Technology Institute; Denny Stone, independent consultant and former chief economic development officer for the city of Chula Vista, California; Ken Snyder, president of PlaceMatters; Doug Walker, president of Placeways; and Nick Lee, chief development officer at SCD Consultants and former project manager at McMillin Development.

More information on these research findings can be found in the recent Technical Brief Developing Energy-Efficient Communities (PDF) by Ira Krepchin, research director at E Source. For access to other Technical Briefs on building efficiency from PIER, visit www.esource.com/PIER.
